Get Involved

C.O.O.P. needs all the voices of support we can get!

Keeping "abreast" of COOP news is one valuable thing, but telling a friend, emailing a commissioner, or writing letters of COOP support to the JC Press editor are other very tangible, immediate things you can do to be a Force For Good.

What You Can Do

  1. Write a letter to the editor - mailbag@johnsoncitypress.com. Good letters contain calm, reasonable information and opinions about HENS (*not* 'chickens' - too general and, if you can believe it, provocative a term). We think some of the best reasons to formally legalize city hens include: they truly make great PETS, they are QUIET creatures unlike roosters or dogs, they make healthy EGGS, and they help FAMILIES be more self-reliant and weather tough economic times better.
  2. Email one (or all!) of the 5 JC City Commissioners (also at right) telling them Johnson City is ready to allow its responsible citizens the right to keep a few hens as useful PETS. Phone calls are also *super effective* too!
  3. Join our COOP group. Write *us* to sign up for our email newslist and thereby stay current on COOP events, COOP meetings, and COOP calls to action (like helping give a show of support at certain upcoming City Council meetings)!
  4. Tell a friend! Tell a whole FLOCK of friends!!
  5. Donate a “BOK” or two. If you believe in the right of citizens to responsibly keep useful pets, please consider sending a little $ to the COOP Nest Egg Fund. All proceeds go to funding COOP activities like education outreach and upcoming events. Any donations can be sent to: C.O.O.P. Group c/o Emily Katt; 1208 Greenfield Drive; Johnson City, TN 37604. We thank you hen-thusiastically!
